Barista Training; How To Get The Most Out Of The Fast-Track Course!

Barista - Jessie's Cafe

First off, great choice selecting our most popular barista training course here at Barista School Perth! Barista training here in Perth WA has been become a huge industry and we’re so glad you decided to become a barista with us! Our fast track course is a full, 7-hour day where you’ll be learning from one of our trainers with 15+ years of experience and knowledge. The day is jam packed so you might be wondering how to get the most out of it!

Our fast-track barista training courses are built for up to six people and you’ll be working together on the espresso machines all day. So, tip number one, is to start off on the right foot by introducing yourself and getting to know your fellow trainees. Meeting new people can be intimidating but you’re all in it together and it is great practice for when you get out into the real world and will need to talk to customers, co-workers and your employer. A positive attitude goes a long way and you’ll have so much more fun if you can share the experience with the others in the class!

We provide you with worksheets that are a great tool to make sure you take in all the information your trainer offers. You can follow along as the course progresses and we encourage note taking for all those extra little titbits the trainer will throw in throughout the day. 7 hours is a long time to try and pay attention, let alone retain everything you are told! Furthermore, please don’t be afraid to ask questions! You might be worried you’ll sound silly, but I guarantee others in the class will be wondering the same thing. Our fast track course is designed for beginners, so there really are no stupid questions.

Often, you’ll be working on the espresso machine with someone else, as you would in the real world of a busy café. The best thing you can do to make the most of your practice time is to work together and communicate so you both get equal time practising all the tasks you are being taught. Again, if you’re not sure about something, or your espresso or milk isn’t coming out quite right, don’t be afraid to ask questions of your teammate or the trainer!

There’s no substitute for practice when it comes to being a good barista, so we encourage you to make the absolute most of your practice time and repeat the steps as many times as you can, even if you think you’re nailing it! At the end of the day we conduct a speed test to give you an indication of what it really feels like to work in a busy café and when the nerves set in, the more you’ve practised, the easier it will be.

At the end of the day, take the opportunity to ask your trainer any final questions and don’t forget to take home your worksheets to refresh your memory before you go for that all important job trial. You can also add us on social media where you can keep and eye on what we’re up to and feel free to contact us if you have any follow up questions. After you’ve completed our fast-track, if you’re still keen on learning you can sign up for our latte art classes too!

Lastly, and most importantly we hope you come into the course with an open mind, relaxed and have fun!
